That Lousey East Coast Snow

If you're a skiier and from this northeast area, you probably have seen the ski conditions decline ...year after year. (the Al Gore Effect). Despite "global warming" the northeast has been known for icy/poor ski conditions....and the "good stuff" has been out west for the powder and dryer/better conditions.
But, if a mountain biker, these lousey conditions can be just right for "us".
As long as the temps are low enough, the packed-icy snows and ribbons of frozen trails are just what the MTB doctor ordered.
Nevermind the skiiing. We've got a 2-wheeled wonderland right out our door...or a short drive away. Besides, MTB'ing is alot cheaper than skiing, ya don't need a lift, and ya don't have to deal with noisy families/bratty kids in the lodges (not to mention the crumby foods they usually have at most ski centers).
Ride the ice and snow when ya can. There's great gear for winter...both for the bike and you. Keep your eyes peeled on ECTRR to get the skinny on the best winter stuffs.
All the best!

You know, last weekend I rode and it sucked the big enchilada but today I went XC skiing, in the same place, and it kicked ass!  What I love about XC skiing is it lets me scout out new areas to ride in the future - especially since I have a 880 acre state forest in front yard to play with and have actually built one legal trail in and working on a few illicit trails as well.

However, this winter, Al Gore is definitely getting pumped on the old dirt road.  Skiing has been insane!  I took my daughter to Woodbury last weekend and the snow was excellent!  I'll be hitting Mt Southington next weekend and after that heading back to Mohawk.  This is the winter for a Pugsley!

winter = burrrrrrr, shiver, cold!!

:)  guess all my replaced body parts are beginning to kick back. I used to love to play in the snow.. not so much anymore.  I do like riding in the quiet, surreal feeling while the snow is falling... making the first tracks in the snow. I'm not really set up yet for winter riding properly. but hopefully next yr. ( going to hit a lot of the sale stuff in march/april when they are trying to get it out of the way)  :)
May your last ride not be, "your last ride"!!
