"springing" a Dart 3?
« on: February 11, 2009, 11:44:24 AM »
hoping some one out there can help?(you know who you are    )

anyway, got a Dart 3 on the 29er, thinking of switching the springs over to the soft. The firms are just to much for me. to hard. I leave it in lock out more than not because it just doesn't seem to matter.

anyway... how hard is it to switch over?  do I need special tools?  will the same spring work 26/29?  If I have to take it to a shop it's just not worth it. Would cost almost as much as just replacing it by the time I'm done.

Is there anywhere to find directions to do it?  I've looked all over the web and can't find any  :(

I really want to do this, I have found the spring for under 25 bucks so then it would be worth it. If I have to get oil and such so be it, keeping it under 50 I'll do it... over that... well I'll save for a hydro.

I believe you just undo the Preload knob with a socket, and the spring is right there, just pull it out. Grease up the new one and put it in and tighten it back down. Really simple.

no stress... I'm sure there are other people out there still using a Dart fork  that will like the info...  it's funny, 2 yrs ago I was scared to touch a spring fork,... now I rebuild Air forks for myself and others all the time   ::)
