New build?
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:16:34 PM »
well, like my Pumpkin, but, the frame really isn't set up for New England winter riding. rear shifter cable is now held by Velcro and tie warps and not sure how to get a good set up for the front derail  :undecided:  .... sooooooo  thinking of getting a new in expensive 29er frame and pulling my parts... (this free bike is costing me more and more)  What I want is a Fully.. but just WAY above my wallet's comprehension  :o soooo it's Hardtail.

Looking at trying out a Sette frame. they are on sale for 1/2 off right now and the polished alum look is kinda cool. It's only 3.5lbs also which is damn good for a 29er. I'm not THAT good of a rider that a steel frame is going to be a big diff to me as well as any high priced frame. Specially since this thing is basically my beater winter, foul weather ride.

Was also think of the On-One (from UK) but it's smallest size is 18.5... little big since I'm riding a 17 now and it's pushing my crouch height!

anyone have any good ideas?  like to keep it WELL under $500 for a frame.

sette frame link..

Before i bought my EWR I was very very close to buying this:  http://vassagocycles.com/jabberwocky.html as a single speed, or the Bandersnatch as a geared bike. The frames look awesome.. its a cool company. Not to many ppl know about them but they ride very well ( my friend has one) and the name is just plain cool.. The orange paint job is awesome!! although the white is pretty damn cool too!!!

well I want multi speed for sure right now... not spending the $$ to get a single all set up and honestly I don't think I'd enjoy riding a SS in the snow as much    also they don't have any 16's in stock and no local dealers... :(

That and the Sette is a full pound lighter, not that that is a big deal to me, but it's a bonus!! ;D

ya, I'm thinking it's going to become a 1x9, because I NEVER use the big ring, though I do switch down to a granny now and then in heavy snow and slop.. or climbing a big hill when I'm worn out   ::)

Stump rides a 1x9er. Redline 29er. He swears by it. And he rides it everywhere... I thought about that. I never use my big ring or granny gear either. It is comforting to know it's there I guess. The older I get, the more comforting too... I still like to ride strong, but I would give up the big ring first I suppose, if I had to make a choice...

you can go with something like this for a reasonable amount if money...
you would still have a granny but some extra weight as well

Oh the cranks on the pumpkin will be going on it, just thinking about switching the outer ring for a bash and maybe taking the inner off all together.

If I do this I'll have the 17" Rockhopper frame, if someone is interested,...? would be a great Single Speed, which at this point I'm not interested in sooo...

yup.. 29er Rockhopper disc (no V mounts)

Orange, has a few scratches from being bungeed to my racks in the van but nothing bad.

I think the seat post and head set, Left shifter and front Derail will be staying with it.  has the sliding drop outs for geared or SS use.

This is the original Bike... any realist offer would be good. I won the bike So I'm not out for top dollar, just something to take the sting out of getting a new one.
