Risse*Racing™ Custom Rear Shocks
« on: January 07, 2009, 09:01:58 PM »
If you've got an irrepairable problem with a rear shock, Risse Racing might have the solution.
A couple of years ago, i needed to replace a rear shock on a frame that i wouldn't give-up on. The original Fox shock was obsolete. No presently well-known shock manufacturer (i called them all!) could help with an eye-to-eye measurement and stoke-length. It was over for my beloved Fox5R™ air shock. I was turned on to Risse Racing Co.
They asked for the old shock so they could duplicate the eye-to-eye, and stroke-length measurements. They asked about my riding style and habits. We discussed the options and
Risse built me a custom shock that works better than the original. The final cost was less than to buy a new namebrand shock.
The Risse replacement shock is my favorite of all i own. It's simple; adjustable for fast, slow, rebound & damping....all in a single control! After 2 years of ownership, i can say that their product gets a "10" IMO.

They built you a completely custom, personally tuned shock!?

That's F-in beautiful! I didn't even know you could do this kind of thing. Especially if you wanted to be able to afford it... ;D

I know you posted a while ago, but thanks for the heads up.

What do you got in the rear? If it fits my bike maybe I'll take it off your hands.
You are as useful as a 1 legged man in an azz kicking contest!

Rock Shox Monarch 4.2  set on a 4 Inch travel ( it really only moves something like 2 inches but the arm & linkage converts it to a 4 inch travel bike if that makes since. :undecided:)

You thinking of using RISSE for the replacement??
This sounds exciting.
And BTW, they will tune the shock to YOUR weight and the way/style you ride.
Just did some mild-technical rides and i still love the way it works.
With riding rocks as much as you do, the "TERMINATOR" might be the ticket...
2- separate controls for rebound and compression. I almost got it but opted for the simpler single lever that controls both.
Some doubters have said that you can't get the tuning you want with just one control, but if you alter the air pressure by just a couple of pounds +/- , it's amazing how much variation you can get.
Which reminds me, i've gotta call them cause my shock is "hissing" more than when i first got it.
Hissing almost always spooks me and makes me wonder if something inside isn't right.
Anyone have any comments on shocks that "hiss"?? :undecided:

Well, The Risse Shocks I have to say are pretty awesome!!!  After riding the first shock for a month or so  I started getting a heavy "knock" everytime the bike weight was unloaded (shock fully extended)  after a few e-mails back and forth with Risse it was decided to return the shock and they wanted me to try a slightly different "can" size which would lower my pressure and allow for a more controlled rebound....

Was the right choice for sure!!! Haven't even gone out of my yard and i can tell it's better than ever, running at half the pressure and she's smooth as butter!!  ;D ;D ;D

will write more when I get a few rides on her!!

Ya! Can't wait to hear more about it.
Mine: Now that the weather's warm, the shock performs the best. (Over the winter it was less predictable)
There's tons of tuning (5-way damper! ;D) when you change air pressures.

After a couple of years, it was time for an overhaul. Shaft was damaged, nitrogen on the wrong side of seals that were breaking down...poor tired shock.
Sent it to the Risse boys.
Came back with the following:
NEW SHAFT
NEW SEALS
A NEW/EXTRA VALVE WAS ADDED TO CREATE MORE DYNAMIC DAMPING VARIATION
Took it out today for a few hours of tuning and tweaking.
The tech at Risse told me: "You will now have more damping and tunability than ever."
He was totally right.
It's better than ever!! I am very very happy with everything.
BTW: Thanks MasterLlama for coaching me on the proper way to install, prep and mount the shock bushings that were a slight problem.
Thanks man!
Thanks Risse for providing such individualized service! (if they even see this  :undecided:)
