Chain-L Lube...
« on: September 28, 2009, 08:32:16 PM »

Well, a month or so ago a friend posted up about a chain lube he was trying and how good it was.  Well, being me, I had to try it too   :undecided:  I got to say at first I wasn't expecting much, After a few e-mails back and forth with the manufacturer We were both thinking it really wouldn't fit me because I'm kinda a clean freak when it comes to my bike!  :halo:  I kinda have turned to Dry Lube's over the wet lube's, you have to apply more often with Drys, but as long as you do it pretty regularly your drive train as a whole will last longer (dirt = wear) But he's got a $4 test bottle so, why not.. if it really lasts for 1/2 the milage it's claimed to it's still really good.

Well, completely striped the chain of old oil (fairly new chain), hit it with the air hose then let dry in the sun for a few hour before applying the chain-L lube. Followed the directions and let it soak over night, whipped off excess and mounted on bike.

So, the thing ran nice and quiet, at first but then that which drove me to Dry lubes in the first place happened, sand started to stick to it's gooeyness and I could hear it grinding... :WOW:  That just drives me nuts, but I rode it out and when I got home I whipped it down again but I could feel it being sticky.. SO I got an idea.. take a bit of rubbing alcohol which wont strip the oil but will kinda skin oils.. Well, It worked...  I have put well over 150 miles on it and it's super quiet, really clean (cleaner than the drys which get that black dust coat).. and no more sticky sand grind..  :)

I got to say, so far I'm petty impressed.. and thats hard for me to admit about a wet lube.

well here's my chain after about 150 miles using Chain-L... pretty clean considering I haven't touched anything on the drive train.. look at the cassette.. looks new, not black goo... same thing with it, rubbed down lightly with rubbing alcohol, you can feel the lube on it, but it's not sticky anymore...

you really need to follow the directions closely!! but in the long run, it's worth it !!!

I give it a 4 out of 5.. lost one because it's a bit of a process to apply,...

I was very skeptical about using gear oil on the chain.
But............last week I was finally able to get out( it's been a while) and I decided to give this a go.

I used some bio to clean the chain. let her air dry, applied the lube and let it sit.

the next day I hit Sprain ridge and the chain was sooooooooooo quiet!!!  I couldn't believe it.  I haven't gone back to it and I don't feel the need to.  I don't notice any real dirt or grime and it's still quiet!  It even quieted the little FD rub i had........weird!

Thumbs up so far!1
