The future looks bright.. and DRY!!!
« on: June 24, 2009, 01:02:21 PM »
well, I sat and watched the radar, nothing to close... looked out the window.. looked at the radar... out the window, after an hour or so of this I packed up and got in the Van and headed to bluff point. wouldn't you know it a misty sprinkle started just as I got on the highway.  . Well I figured, if that is all we get I can at the very least hit the Fire Roads and get a few miles on my legs. Well, it got worse, and sorta actually turn into a light rain as I drove into the parking lot. But stead fast on at least doing to roads I suited up and ripped the bike out of the van as the skies continued to darken. But there must have been someone up there on my side because as I started to ride off the parking lot and past the gate the rain turned back into a light mist. I took a right right off the bat and figured I'd head straight for the Bluff and make some decisions there on what to do. As I past the first trail head I looked into the woods with a little droopy "I need to riding in" feeling crossing my face. To my amazement the trail look dry, actually very dry, dryer than the road I was on. A little hope flashed through my brain, could it be, was I going to be able to ride the trails today? Gingerly I entered the trail, shifting into a slow moving, high cadence pedal spin. as I inched farther and farther in the realization that the trails were dry made me shift up and start moving a bit faster. I took the trail that leads up to the summit on the hill and as I climbed the rooty rocky trail my feeling of bliss and pure happiness flowed through me.

THE TRAILS WERE DRY!! Even in the light mist the tree coverage was keeping the trial from any real moisture getting into the soil. Again the skies started to let loose the rain but it was still light and although the brush started to get wet and my body got soaked, the trails remained solid. Oh as I entered open areas there was obvious moisture on the ground, but no mud, nothing to damage by riding on it.!! there was one spot were people have ridden over the last few days/weeks were there was mud and heavy ruts, but it was only 2 small corner sections and I actually stopped and kinda kicked the ruts down with my heel while I walked through.

I got to the bluff and the misty rain was getting worse So I headed back taking the fire roads again. The trails were starting to show signs of moisture soaking in so I stayed off them. But I did get in a few miles of trail riding and I feel SOOO much better. Not just because of todays ride, but also because I know as long as we don't get any downpours, the trials are going to be in good shape for this weekend!!   ;D ;D :D ;D ^-^  :halo: ;D :D
May your last ride not be, "your last ride"!!
