Park PSC-9 work stand.

Well, I've had this thing since the beginning of my "Home Mechanic" phase of working on my bikes.   :undecided:

it's an OK stand, but I think you can get better for less.

The good
  • works, hold your bike
  • pretty solid/stiff
  • collapsible

The bad
  • Screw clamp is annoying
  • Height Adjustment not easy/quick
  • legs floppy, both when working and collapsed
  • pricy compared to others
  • rotation system/handle weak

This stand works, but that's about all I can say good about it.  I'm not saying it's a "bad" product because it isn't bad per say, just could be better, or cheaper, or both.

The twisty, screwy style clamp is very annoying. It seems no matter where I put the thing on the frame it's always whacking my knuckles on the bike somewhere. And it takes what seems like forever to get it tightened up. I just can't see why a quick release head isn't on a stand costing well over $100!!?  ???

Next thing is the height adjustment, it has 2 screws in a plastic collar to adjust the height. now it's probably not going to be a big deal for the normal person because you set it and never need to touch it again. But if you like to stand some times and sit on a stool sometimes, well forget it, you'll be screaming at the thing trying to get it to move. And if like me you travel with it at times it'd be nice to be able to EASILY collapse the height down for packing in the vehicle. Not happening with this stand. And talking of travel, the legs just flop around without anything clipping them in. This includes whether it's open for use or collapsed for storage or transport.

Now the legs being floppy has got to be my #2 biggest complaint with this stand. For travel it's an easy fix with a bungie or rope wrapped around it. But for a working stand it's Down right dangerous to your bike if you don't pay attention.!  >:( I often put the bike in the stand to just wipe it down and clean it. The head pivots left to right so you can sit and work on the lower parts going front to back, with out getting up and changing your seat. But if you go just a tad to far the whole stand will tip over.!! ???  Now Im not talking about sliding the thing so 3/4 of the bike is off center over the legs, I talking if you go 5% one direction or the other to either side the main stand starts leaning and the leg isn't held into place so over it goes without much of a warning.

And my final whiny complaint on this stand is the rotation head clamp. It seems to be kinda weak. you really have to crank it down to keep the bike level, otherwise it'll slowly start sagging and next thing you know it's off kilter and the front tire is on the floor with the bike pointing straight up  :undecided:

If you are getting it from your local shop they are going to charge you over $100 + tax. Which is fine if you want to support your shops and don't plan on using it very often and it's all they carry. Which is why I got it. But if you shop the web you'll find "store" branded stands that come with quick release style grips. just as rugged, legs snap into place and a few other nice features for a good bit less.

Bottom line..If you asked me,  I'd tell you to go to Price Point and get their $75 stand and be happier.  You'll get more features for less money.

5 out of 10, It works, sorta.

May your last ride not be, "your last ride"!!
