forking Reba POS!!
« on: August 01, 2009, 07:17:07 PM »
well, I got a deal on an older model Rock Shox Reba Dual Air 29er fork... was a window unit or some such thing. anyway, was a pretty good price, almost too good to be true... well, IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!! as the saying goes...

Thing hydro locks all the time on the gate side. I sent it back once and they rebuilt it. less than a week later it was locked up again. Getting maybe 1 inch of movement. Now I discovered that if I take air out of all the chambers and let it sit in the sun for an hour or 2 it'll bleed it all back down... lasts a week or so and repeat... annoying but keep me on the bike.

Well it started today to do it's thing so when I got home I bleed out the air, let it site in the sun and it settle about 1/2 way. Pushed once on the handle bars to see it it was just air still in the chambers and BOOM!! the top seal blew off and the little sponge popped out!!   :grr2:

this crap always seems to happen when I'm supposed to go on a big ride... tomorrow I was going to meet up with like everyone out here on the Island and do a few short rides then a picnic... couldn't happen on my way home!!  :grind:

What's the Drake?  I know where I can get a Tora for a decent price but I am told that is heavier.

not yet... not much i can do out here, thinking I'm not even going to get my blood pressure up dealing with it becasue I couldn't find the receipt last time they rebuilt it and it was such a headache go around, pain in the ass to get it done then,  may see if i can either get a kit and do it myself or send off to Push and take the $$$ hit... or just throw the thing in the garbage and take it as lesson learned  >:(

option 3 may be the best since two other times before it broke or you can say 3rd times a charm.

well, I spend a good part of the day doing research, and I think I'm going to go with the patch/rebuild myself. can't really afford to send it out to someone like PUSH. don't really want to bother with shipping it off, waiting 3 weeks to have it come back the same way I have it now so Warrantee work is out. I kinda want to pull it apart and know what is inside anyway.... I mean what's the worse thing that could happen?  I screw it up?  Oh wait , it's already screwed up! ::)

will try and do a video doc-u-drama of it if I remember to set up the cam.   :undecided:  that will be interestingly boring!  ???

well, tore it down last night, added the seals and such. Got the ridiculously over priced oil for it cleaned and re assembled. Pulled the spacer out to increase the travel!! all mounted and ready  :cheesy:  seems AWESOME now riding around the yard. giving it an hour or so under pressure to make sure no leaks then it's off to Rocky Neck to beat the snot out of it, ya know, to make sure it's all going to work   :evil12:  baaahhhhhhhaaaaaa
