Magura venti disc--with avid BB7's
« on: April 17, 2009, 08:36:36 PM »
well... I have been quite annoyed with Avids new clean sweep rotors they are using over he roundagons. to put it mildy.. they suck!!  :grr2:

So I've been looking around for something stiffer, straighter, better,... and well.. I'll admit it.. Blingy-er   :thumb:

well after looking around I saw these thing and with the stiffer center and thicker actual disc material I figured they'd be perfect .  and I was right!! ;D

they are AWESOME!! stiffer.. straighter.(though they still wobble a smidge) I can now set the pads closer, the warp squeak is GONE!!! :hi:  and MAN ARE THEY COOL LOOKING!! :o  even better on the bike than in the picture!!

little pricey, but in the long run, I hope, worth it.

well, I got to say, I love these things!! they are stiff so they stay true, lighter than others, and damn pretty looking!!  (just wish they came in Green to match my bike  :undecided:)

they are far better than the stock Avid clean sweeps or even the roundagons.  and did I say they stay true? (well at least truer than everything else I've tried)  I think they are a bit harder because they did take a bit of time to brake in. ride some easy stuff for a bit till you feel them start really grabbing. once they do you'll wonder why you ever used anything else.

One thing is you do have to modify some brake systems pad. if they have a little grab lever/tip/nub what ever you call it (like most avids and some others) you'll have to cut it off on the inside pad. the outside one will actually clear, at least it does on my BB7's  pretty easy to do with a dremil tool or even a hack saw blade.

you can see by were the 2 red arrows are pointing that when it start turning the inside tab ( already cut in picture) will hit the rotor's fan casing. the outer one you can leave alone, the space to the rivet is about 2/3's of the pad thickness and  so it'll act as a wear indicator. if you hear it clicking on the rivet it's time to change to pads
