Nelgene bite valve
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:31:23 PM »
Nelgene bite valve,....this is a great product!!! far better than any other "BITE" valve for your hydro pack...  WHY IS IT BETTER? you might ask?  weeeeelllllllll.......
it works great as a valve, turn it 90 degrees and it shuts it off so it wont leak while transporting...
But the biggy... is the magnetic clip!! this is a simply BRILLIANT IDEA!!  it comes with a magnet built in and there is a clip that you put on your packs chest strap... unlike others when you're not drinking it's not bobbling!!!  if you set it up right, you can actually put in in your mouth, ride away, when done drinking just let it drop out of your mouth,... it'll fall down and "SNAP" it clips in and STAYS PUT!!!!  I have tried the "stiff" tube covers, I have let the others just bounce around.  very annoying!!

try it.. you'll never go back!!

10 out of 10!!!  and it's less than 10 bucks!!!

EMS has them for $7 right now...

I ended up buying that Magnetic bite-valve.  Looked pretty cool and for $7 it was much easier than me trying to fabricate something with the random parts that I have in my basement that I have collected over the years.  Even the guy at the front counter was joking with me - "Wow, really breaking the bank today huh?"

Although it was very hard NOT to buy a lot of other items in that store.  First time I ever been to that one in Manchester, CT.  Didn't even know it was there until the other day.

I'm telling ya, that 7 buck will be the best/cheapest thing you ever buy for your bike.!! One thing, when installing it, I highly recommend cutting off the inch or so of the hose the old one was in...  I've had one leak because the hose had stretched out around the old bite. Once I cut the hose, all better.

Does your bite valve leak/drip at all?  I find myself not opening it up all the way and keeping it at a 45 degree angle, so its not as opened up... to prevent it from dripping on my leg.

never!! only time I had one leak was after a few yrs ( yes I have had them for many yrs now) it actually wore a hole where my teeth bit it...  It so has a shut off valve where you turn the unit 45 degrees.. but it's stiff and hard to do if moving.

what's really annoying is I have a spare bite that has been rolling around my van, tool boxes, bed room.. etc  always in my face.   :goof: And now, I just purchased one of the Sette packs for 17 buck, unit is really nice other than the bite valve... guess what.. can't find the spare!!!   :grr2:  and if I go and buy another.. it'll pop up I'm sure.  :WOW:

Oh yeah, it'll turn up once you buy one!!!

Maybe I should have brought it back, it doesn't leak THAT bad, but it can be annoying when you are on the trail and all of a sudden you feel a cold "drip" on your leg.  Takes your concentration away from the trail, that's for sure.
