Don't have them but was thinking about it. Let me know what you think. I bought the nashbar excursions because they were a platform pedal with dual entry, hard to find, but they don't hold too well on aggressive riding, hoping maybe the crankbros will hold better.

haven't used smartys but the egg beaters I hated, way to stiff and hard to get out of, no adjustments and brake really easy.  used them for 3 rides at which point I snapped one on a stump, chucked them

Steve: I'll certainly let ya know.

Thom: I have to agree re the "Beaters". I've got a non-platform set on my HT. Brought that bike to TRUMBULL once and OH BOY!! Those pedals are certainly NOT for technical in-and-out of the pedals stuffs.  :o

However, i carefully mounted my cleats and did some tests last night. Ya gotta get the bottom of the shoe touching just right on the platform. ..Slight contact's the ticket. They just might work BETTER cause of the platforms. Fixing to find out real soon.

I have smarty, candies, platforms, and one other type I forget the name - it's a cross between the candie/smarty and the platform.  I love them.  Much easier to maintain and set up.

Geez...so sorry i've been away!
Hey Steve,
I really like them. Alot.
At first the setup was weird cause of the "contact with the bottom of the shoes". The shoes had to be trimmed just right to get the platform contact to feel good. Too much trimming, you lose the sensation of being on a platform. Too little trimming and the entry and exit is crumby.
Happy to say i dialed-in the shoes (sole trimming around the cleat) and rode in mildly technical trails. A good solid feel that instills more confidence than the "plain eb'rs".  . I like my original Eggbeaters on my XC hardtail.
The Smartys are better on my FS rig and give me the feel that i wanted.
Smarty(s) are a nice addition to my pedal options when more than little "monkey's fists" (expression coined by a FR'r/Dj'r ridebud named Maestro) are needed.
I like light bikes, so the Smartys certainly satisfy that aspect too.
