OK, well I got this kit some time ago. Was planning on playing with it but my set up was working so well I just didn't feel like jinxing it...

Well, the other day cleaning the bike I hit a spoke with my finger and noticed it was just flopping around. The nipple had completely stripped the threads, sooo having to replace the spoke and nipple I decided I might as well give Velocity's own tubeless conversion Kit a try...
what you get... Roll of tape, two Stems and directions (printed on the back the hanging/package card) you get the two stem nuts and a washer to keep the nuts from scratching your rims which aren't in the picture below.
OK, it seems to be basically the same idea as using gorilla or any other duct tape set up. I will say I was hoping it would work well because the tape is a much lighter than just duct tape. I'm not a "Weight Weenie" but if I can loose a few here and there without busting the bank, why the hell not?

The stems look nice, shaped to fit the rim, removable cores, all good things. The tape installs really easy and lays flat easier than working with the duct tape. Also after reading the directions
(yes, I read the directions!!
) they say to do the tape over lap at the seam of the rim not the stem hole. This makes perfect sense as it doesn't have a double layer build up where you have to puncture it for the stem and it sorta helps balance the weight more evenly. Well, I got the whole setup done and feeling good about how it all went I install the tire. I notice as I'm doing that there are places where the tires edge kinda rolled back a bit of the tapes edge. Now this "tape" is more like using static clig. It has a bit of tackiness to it but it's not really a good adhesion. Seems to be more like a stretch fit thing. Very much like a rubber rim strip. Well I easily roll the edge back and carefully check the whole tape strip to make sure it was straight and flat before airing it up. pulled the core, wack it with air to seat the bead, pour in 50ml Caffelatex, install core and air up again. after a few minutes of the normal bubbles everything seemed good. Give it a shake, a spin and let sit to make sure everything is sealed. Well it was and wiped wheel and tire down with a clean alcohol soaked rag I threw it on the bike and did a quick spin down the driveway and back. Tiny bit of sealent leaked out around the outside of the stem but nothing terribly bad, so I cleaned it up, let it sit over night and figured it was all good in the morning when the tire was still up to pressure.
Well, I was wrong

The leak around the stem never stopped. Days later the air was still up. but every time I would go for a ride the sealant would leak out around the base of the stem. Funny the pressure never really got low.. though I got scared a few times and added air while riding more because I was paranoid.

After 3-4 days it was still happening, SO i gently pulled the tire and took a look, the first thing I noticed was the stem not sitting down to the rim, pulled the stem and place a older one in after inspecting it and seeing the lower edge of the seal all curled. Now this may be in design as it puckers up and acts as a seal to the stem hole??
ya, I don't think so either, so in went the old non- Velocity stem I KNEW worked. Ya, I could hit the whole with a drill bit and open it up a tad but gezz, this kit is MADE FOR THE THIS SPECIFIC RIM!!

Well no improvement, the tire would hold air fine, but after 3 days it would always dribble a little sealant. Could just spin the wheel on the stand and it would ooze a little. Tried tightening the stem nut and a dozen other stupid things to try and find what the issue was.

Well, I came to the one any only conclusion it could be. The tape wasn't sealing to the rim and it was allowing sealant to get between them where it wont dry out enough to seal. pulled the tire, wiped everything dry and let it sit for a few hours before taking a look at the tape...

Well, I stripped everything off the rim and cleaned it thoroughly, I rinsed the whole thing off with a hose and sealant was pouring out from inside the the rim. taking a closer look I could see that sealant had gotten around all the nipples and had sealed up. I had seen it before but it wasn't "leaking" from them so I figured it was just the bit of dribble from the stem leak.. Wrong again

Well, I got to say I'm a good bit disappointed. I have been VERY pleased with every product Velocity has sent over to us here in the states from Australia. From the Blunt rims, the Velo Plugs to the P-35 rims themselves. Well I guess no company is perfect
all in all, I give this kit a big fat 0 out of what ever scale you want to use. better off just getting some stems at your local shop (make sure they are removeable core) and some Gorilla tape from the hardware store. Sad, I really wanted these to work

Looks Like it's back to gorilla tape. It works
